Yes, actually. It’s common knowledge that standard tank water heaters need to be flushed once a year, but you should have your tankless water heater flushed annually too. Sediment (from hard water especially) can build up in your tankless unit and will need to be flushed in order to avoid repairs and keep your hot water levels consistent. Most manufacturers require annual flushings in order to keep your warranty valid too.

Tankless water heaters heat water on demand. Harnessing the technology of an internal heat exchanger, as water flows into the unit it gets heated near-instantly, so it can flow right out of the tap whenever you need it. The downside to this technology, however, is that the output is limited to around 5 gallons per minute. So if you’re running more than two hot water appliances at a time, you may experience lukewarm temperatures. Once you shut off the third or fourth hot water appliances though, your hot water will return. It all depends on how and when your household uses hot water.
