Summer, is officially in Santa Fe and it is hot outside. Are you a few weeks into the kid’s summer break and realizing that you should have made more plans for them? Well, don’t despair, there’s plenty of summer activities, camps, and programs available. There are some activities and programs that may even have room for you to get your kid(s) in.
Summer Day Camps in Santa Fe
If you’re willing to front some cash for your child to have some amazing unique experiences this summer, registration is still open at many local camps.
The Randall Davey Audubon Center & Sanctuary still has openings for children 7 – 12. Five-day long camp sessions are divided by age and run from June 12th – July 14th. $250 per week. Details here on these nature and wildlife day-camps
The Boys & Girl’s Club of Santa Fe offers full daytime hours and a variety of activities for your child. A major bonus is their drop in fee option of $85.00 per week. Ages 5-18.
For a little STEM action this summer, consider enrolling your child grades K – 6th, in Camp Invention held at St. Michael’s High School. July 10th – July 14th, 9:00 am – 3:30 pm. Registration here
For your aspiring rock star, few things will be as immersive and creative as the annual Rock Camp at Candyman Strings & Things. Two separate sessions run June 12th – 24th and again July 17th – 29th. Ages 8 – 18, half day classes Monday through Friday for two weeks at a time, $500.00. Child must be able to play their instrument prior to enrollment. Are your kids climbing the walls? Sounds like a good time to send them to climbing camp at the Santa Fe Climbing Center. Ages 5 -15, various weeks June through August, 8:00 am- 4:00 pm with extended hours available. $350.00 per week. For specific dates and times visit climbsantafe.com.
Low Cost Activities
If you’re in the market for you and your kids here are a few local favorites:
Santa Fe’s favorite new tourist destination hasn’t forgotten about the locals. Enjoy Community Days the second Sunday of each month at the majestic Meow Wolf. Reduced admission for New Mexican residents, $11.00 for adults and $7.50 for children 12 and under. Open 10:00 am – 8:00 pm. Sure to wear your kids out and mesmerize the whole family.
We are so lucky to have an array of amazing museums in our capital city, but for the ultimate kid museum experience check out the Santa Fe Children’s Museum. Open Wednesday – Sunday, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm more or less. $5.00 per child and $7.50 per adult, guaranteed to amuse your kids all day long.
Free Summer Activities in Santa Fe
Music on the Hill is back, every Wednesday night in June and July on the lawn of St.John’s College starting at 8:00 pm. These are free and feature live local music. Bring chairs, blankets and your dancing shoes for these family friendly concerts. Get the schedule here:
There are countless gorgeous hiking destinations in the area but if you need to spend the day as a family in the water and sun Lake Cochiti is a quick 40 minutes away from Santa Fe. Featuring free admission, a well kept beach and space to swim. Head out during the day as it closes by 7:00 p.m. Details here
